Saarland university is offering a study program to obtain a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) since Winter Semester 01/02. Subsequent to the bachelor degree, one can continue the studies in order to obtain the degree of a Master of Science (M. Sc.) (since WS 2003/2004). It is the goal of the Bachelor's Program to prepare for the daily work as a bioinformatician. The students acquire a basic scientific qualification and also the necessary knowledge in life sciences as well as computer science. This gives the students the possibility to get a good job after finishing the bachelor studies.
The bachelor in 'BioInformatics' (BI) is educating towards the usage of bioinformatics tools and programs based on life sciences. The bachelor in 'computational molecular biology' (CMB) is based more on computer sciences and rather educates towards the development of new bioinformatic programs and tools.
Duration of study: 6 semesters.

The Master's Program follows the Bachelor's degree and extends the knowledge acquired during the bachelor studies. Additionally, independent research is carried out by writing a master's thesis. This degree is intended for students aiming at a career in science.
Duration of study: 4 semesters.
