Talk by Prof. Dr. Thomas Höfer in the context of our Distinguished Speaker Series
On Wednesday, July 13, 2011, Prof. Dr. Thomas Höfer (German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg) will give a talk in the context of the CBI Distinguished Speaker Series. The talk is entitled "Dynamic regulatory networks of gene expression" and will be held in Room 001, CBI (Building E 2.1) at 17:00 (sharp).
Abstract:
While we can now draw increasingly accurate connectivity maps of the gene-regulatory networks of the cell, their dynamic behavior remains largely uncharted territory. In this talk, I will discuss recent mechanistic studies on how such regulatory networks govern proliferation and differentiation decisions of T cells. I will give an overview of key concepts for mathematical modeling and then show how we iterated modeling with quantitative experimental analysis to dissect the functioning of networks at different levels of molecular organization, ranging from the stochastic expression of individual genes to the nonlinear dynamics of cell communication networks. These studies reveal close relationships between network dynamics and cellular function.
