In an article on Oct. 05 2011, Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lengauer talks about a rapid alert system to predict dangerous and highly infective mutations of influenza viruses. In addition, he talks about the international research project GISAID as well as geno2pheno, a software developed at the Max-Planck-Institue for Computer Science, Saarbrücken, that helps to optimize the medical treatment of HIV patients.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, Prof. Dr. Amos Tanay (Weizmann Institute, Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics) will give a talk in the context of the CBI Distinguished Speaker Series. The talk is entitled "Understanding biology using individual differences" and will be held in Room 001, CBI (Building E 2.1) at 17:00 (sharp).

On Wednesday, October 19, 2011, Prof. Dr. Martin Zacharias (Physics Department T38, TU Munich) will give a talk in the context of the CBI Distinguished Speaker Series. The talk is entitled "Studying nucleic acid flexibility using molecular dynamics and advanced sampling methods" and will be held in Room 001, CBI (Building E 2.1) at 17:00 (sharp).

Under the slogan "conscious experience", the Ministry of Eduction presents in joint cooperation with Saarland's capital city Saarbrücken the "Week of Natural Sciences" which will take place from August 29 to September 03. This year's focus will be health sciences. The Saarland University will also be present with several research projects of different faculties. One of them will be the Bioinformatics faculty.
