CBI Saar welcomes Prof. Dr. Christoph Wittmann, head of the Systems Biotechnology Chair, and successor of Prof. Dr. Elmar Heinzle as a new member of the Center for Bioinformatics. The work group of Prof. Wittman focuses on the development of tailor-made microorganisms that can be used for the production of industrially relevant biochemical compounds in a sustainable fashion.

A detailed overview of  the core research fields and further information can be found on the work group's homepage.

As of April 1, 2014, Prof. Dr. Tobias Marschall is appointed as new  junior professor for "Algorithms for Computational Genomics". He thus complements the Junior Research Group High-throughput Genomics & Systems Biology, headed by Dr. Marcel Schulz, which was launched in 2013. The Center for Bioinformatics welcomes both of them.

On Wednesday, Feb. 05, 2014, Prof. Dr. Gunnar Rätsch (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City) will give a talk in the context of the CBI Distinguished Speaker Series. The talk is entitled "Understanding and Modeling Transcriptome Variability" and will be held in Room 001, CBI (Building E 2.1) at 17:00 (sharp).

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, Prof. Dr. Martin Fussenegger (Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE), ETH Zurich) will give a talk in the context of the CBI Distinguished Speaker Series. The talk is entitled "Prosthetic Networks - Synthetic Biology-Inspired Treatment Strategies For Metabolic Disorders" and will be held in Room 001, CBI (Building E 2.1) at 17:00 (sharp).
