The 2nd "CBI Poster Day" at the Center of Bioinformatics

Under the motto, “From PhD students for PhD students”, the second round of the CBI Poster Day took place on the 8th of November, 2017 in the CBI building at Saarland University. Around 25 bioinformatics PhD students gathered together for one afternoon with their PIs and professors to present their research, to expand their network and to foster collaborations across different departments at the university.

In 1-min flash talks the PhD students had the chance to raise the interest of their colleagues to discuss with them their research in the subsequent poster session in a colloquial friendly atmosphere. After the fruitful discussions and lively interactions, there was a social get-together with food and drinks.

This year also Master’s students were invited to get an overview of the different research areas in bioinformatics on our campus. The presented topics included among others epigenetics (DNA methylation, siRNA), HIV (resistance predictions, treatment optimization), drug and bacterial resistance, sequence assembly, enhancers, phylogenetic and more. Apart from the research groups located in the CBI (Helms lab, Lenhof lab, Keller lab, Marschall lab), PhDs from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Schulz lab, Pfeifer lab, Kalinina lab, Lengauer lab), the Computer Science department (Wolf group) and the Epigenetics group (Walter lab) attended this year’s event.
