Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Werner Kühlbrandt

Am Mittwoch, 12. April 2017, wird Prof. Dr. Werner Kühlbrandt (Department of Structural Biology, Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, Frankfurt) einen Vortrag zum Thema "Membrane protein complexes and the resolution revolution in cryoEM" halten (Raum 001, ZBI (Gebäude E 2.1); Beginn: Punkt 17:00 Uhr).

Abstract:

With the arrival of a new generation of electron detectors and image processing software, cryoEM of biological macromolecules has entered a new era (Kühlbrandt, 2014). We have determined the structures of mitochondrial ATP synthase dimers from Polytomella (Allegretti et al, 2015), from the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica (Hahn et al, 2016), and of the bovine respirasome (Sousa et al, 2016). Applying the new detector technology to electron cryo-tomography, we obtained maps of ATP synthase dimers in the inner mitochondrial membranes from a range of organisms (Mühleip et al, 2016; 2017). Our results provide new insights into how mitochondrial protein complexes work in the membrane.
