Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Niko Beerenwinkel im Rahmen unserer "Distinguished Speaker Series"
Am Mittwoch, 15. Februar 2017, wird Prof. Dr. Niko Beerenwinkel (Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, ETH Zürich, Schweiz) im Rahmen der ZBI "Distinguished Speaker Series" einen Vortrag zum Thema "Analyzing virus populations by deep sequencing" halten (Raum 001, ZBI (Gebäude E 2.1); Beginn: Punkt 17:00 Uhr).
Abstract:
RNA viruses can display very high levels of genomic variation within infected individuals. Viral genetic diversity has been associated with disease progression, and the composition of the virus population affects the outcome of antiviral treatment. Deep-coverage next-generation sequencing offers a cost-effective way to probe virus populations, but the resulting error-prone short-read data provides only indirect evidence of the viral quasispecies. We present recent computational approaches to analyzing virus populations by means of deep sequencing, including methods for mutation calling and viral haplotype reconstruction. For HIV, we discuss how to make use of such data for estimating the HIV fitness landscape and for optimizing antiretroviral combination therapies.
