Vortrag von Dr. Oliver Stegle im Rahmen unserer "Distinguished Speaker Series"

Am Mittwoch, 22. Oktober 2017, wird Dr. Oliver Stegle (European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI)) einen Vortrag im Rahmen der ZBI "Distinguished Speaker Series" zum Thema "From genotype to phenotype: new approaches using population variation and single-cell genomics" halten (Raum 001, ZBI (Gebäude E 2.1); Beginn: Punkt 17:00 Uhr).

Computational methods for decomposing single-cell variability

Many key biological processes are driven by differences in the regulatory landscape between single cells. For example, specific epigenetic and transcriptional profiles can dictate the lineage into which a cell will differentiate. Recent technical developments have enabled the transcriptomes and the epigenome of thousands of cells to be assayed in an unbiased manner, opening up the possibility to study cellular heterogeneity and gene regulation at unprecedented resolution.

In this talk, I will summarize recent technological developments in single-cell genomics, and the Bioinformatics challenges when analyzing the resulting data. I will describe recent computational and statistical advances to reason about molecular drivers and processes that are underlying the observed cell-to-cell differences. In the second part of the talk I will touch on connections of single-cell genomics to other fields, including human genetics and the use of single-cell omics to unravel genotype-phenotype relationships.
