Saarland university is offering a study program to obtain a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) since Winter Semester 01/02. Subsequent to the bachelor degree one can continue the studies in order to obtain the degree of a Master of Science (M. Sc.) (since WS 2003/2004). It is the goal of the Bachelor's Program to prepare for the day to day work as a bioinformatician. The students acquire a basic scientic qualification and also the necessary knowledge in the biosciences and computer science. This gives the students possibilities to get a good job after finishing the bachelor study course.
The bachelor in 'BioInformatics' (BI) is educating towards the Usage of bioinformatics tools and programs, basing on the lifesciences. The bachelor in 'computational molecular biology' (CMB) basing more on computere sciences rather educates towards the development of new bioinformatic programs and tools.
Duration of study: 6 semesters.
The Master's Program follows the Bachelor's degree and extends the knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's studies. Additionally, independent research is done by writing a Master's Thesis. This degree is intended for students aiming at a career in science.
